This week in books is a weekly meme hosted by Lipsy Lost and Found. It asks what you’ve read recently, what you’re currently reading and what’s at the top of your TBR pile. Taking on a World of Words runs something similar called WWW Wednesday.
What I’ve Finished:
This week I finish my reread of Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte (without throwing it against the wall once!!) and kicked of Reading Ireland Month with Walk the Blue Fields by Claire Keegan
What I Am Currently Reading:
I have finally started TransAtlantic by Colum McCann
What’s Up Next:
Up next I planning to read You by Nuala Ní Chonchúir.
What about you? What are you reading this week?
I highly commend you for not throwing Wuthering Heights against the wall while re-reading it! I can’t get on with that book at all – I first read it of my own choosing and since have had to read it for A-Level, and my Eng Lit degree and I just dislike it more every time! I much prefer Anne Bronte’s writing to Emily’s. I do love the cover of the edition you read though, it’s gorgeous. Hope you enjoy Transatlantic – it’s on my TBR and I’ve heard a lot of good things about it. Have a great week!

I read The Tenant of Wildfell Hall last yr and have to agree with you. Emily is probably my least favourite of the sisters.

Same here! I love The Tenant of Wildfell Hall and wish it was as widely read as Wuthering Heights is as it’s a much better book.

I’m glad Wuthering Heights was slightly less irritating this time. I re-read it not that long ago and even Nelly got on my nerves! The only character I have any time for is Hareton.

He is the only truly sympathetic character. It’s a funny book. People either love it or hate it. I can think of few other books which elict such strong emotions in people.

And it’s so odd how many people regard it as “one of the greatest romances”. There is nothing romantic about any of the relationships in the book. Well, potentially Hareton and young Cathy at the end… But otherwise it’s full of unhealthy, abusive relationships!

Clearly unhealthy abusive relationships appeal to some readers. Isn’t that how E.L James has made all her money.

I applaud your mastery of self-control! I wanted to burn A Wuthering Heights when I read it but it’s a school book so I had to return it.

I can understand why. It’s a real marmite book. People either love it or hate it.

Oh goodness, that reminds me of Veggiemite. Marmite is okay but veggiemite is so nasty.

I hope you enjoyed Wuthering Heights. I liked it a lot more than Jane Eyre. Happy reading!

Transatlantic has an interesting cover. Wuthering Heights is one that I know I should read at some point, because it’s a classic, but dear lord I have absolute zero desire to do so! My Week in Books.
